Public Speaking Book - Wake 'Em Up! |

Odd Body AnglesAnother skill taught in my public speaking book is to not be afraid of presenting in different postures and odd body angles. Remember when the comedian/actor Steve Martin did his Walk like an Egyptian routine? Part of the reason it was so funny was because of the weird body angles he used when doing it. These moves were meant to be done by Egyptian dancers, and looked absolutely ridiculous when Steve Martin did them. Charlie Chaplain used the duck footed stance with his arms at his sides, but hands turned up while he waddled along. I have a part in my presentation where I do some pathetic looking Tai Chi moves. The audience can't help but laugh at how ridiculous I look, and getting the audience to laugh is part of using your presentation skills from my public speaking book. Although, I am not an advocate of using a mirror in training, this is one time you can experiment in creating funny looking poses. You'll guarantee more laughs when using this technique in your presentation. |
